Verbatim’s Ultra-Slim External SSD With USB 3.0
Verbatim is coming out with a new ultra-slim external Solid State Drive with a USB 3.0 interface. Of course, the external SSD must be used with a computer that supports USB 3.0 in order for the feature to work at desired speeds. A computer’s USB 2.0 or 1.1 port will cap out at those speeds regardless of the external hard drive’s capacity.
Verbatim’s new drive will feature 8 I/O channels and will be available in 32GB, 64GB, and 128GB flavors. Of course there are many benefits of owning an external solid-state drive as opposed to owning an extern hard disk drive. With solid-state technology, you’ll be using flash memory chips, meaning no moving parts. When parts are static (do not move), the device has a greater mechanical stability and is less prone for damage. What’s more, solid-state drives are silent and use very little power, which should help save on your electricity bills over time.
Of course, the biggest benefit of solid-state technology is that you can achieve speeds of up to 190MB/sec (read) and 175MB/sec (write) using the 128GB model. Faster data speeds come as a result of not needing the drive to be rotating at a certain speed. Finally, the ultra-slim drive is very pleasing to the eye with it’s brushed aluminum case. Verbatim’s USB 3.0 SSD will also come with a drawstring pouch for your transport needs.
