AMD Radeon HD 6790 Coming Soon
AMD has announced that they will be releasing a mid-range graphics card later this year. The card was built to compete with Nvidia’s GeForce GTX 550 Ti and and is based on the technology, Barts LE core shared by the Radeon HD 6800 range. The card will feature 10 fast streaming multiprocessor units that contain a 800 stream processors, coupled with 40 texture units, 32 ROPs, a GDDR5-capable memory controller and a 256-bit interface.
The design has 1GB of GDDR5 RAM and a core clock of 840mhz, at 1,050MHz speed. If you don’t know what any of that means, it’s basically a very powerful card for your moderate user. You’ll be able to play the majority of first-person shooter videogames at a good resolution.
Games like Left 4 Dead 2 and Team Fortress 2 should run perfect. If you’re more into graphic intensive games, save your money for the Nvidia GTX 590 that will feature 3GB of GDDR5 (essentially two 580s), but should be priced at around $850. According to the specs, the 6790s performance should be right in the middle between a 6850 HD and a 5770 HD. The card is expected to launch on April 5th and that will also be the date when we get the pricing on this new card.
