Samsung’s New HDD Lineup With SuperSpeed USB 3.0
Samsung has recently mentioned that they will adopting SuperSpeed USB 3.0 technology. SuperSpeed USB 3.0 has the power to transfer data at up to 5 Gb/s, which is ten times the data transfer rate of USB 2.0 (considered the gold standard in computing not too long ago). SuperSpeed USB 3 also lets users move a 25GB full high definition movie in under four minutes. This technology will be a requisite for any of you “media collectors” who have tons of music or videos on your computer, or even if you just don’t like to wait.
The entry-level model from Samsung will be called the M2 Portable and the premium version will be dubbed the C2 Portable 3.0. I can already sense a class difference by the name! Both drives will feature 1TB of storage and USB 2.0/3.0 compatibility. The only difference between the drives will be the chassis or outer shell. The M2 will be available in matte colors with the C2 having a premium high-gloss cover with a crystallized pattern.
A model similar to the M2, called the M3 will be available in similar capacities as its younger brother, 1-2 Terabytes and was built to join a Desktop machine rather than portable storage. Since a hard drive is an internal component, it wouldn’t make sense to get a prettier one unless you have a custom case with a side window and can actually see your computer’s insides from the real world. If this is not the case, I would opt for the cheaper model as they do not differ in quality of performance. Check out the video to see the true speed of SuperSpeed.
