Foursquare, Reddit, Quora, Hootsuite, And Moby Experience Simultaneous Meltdown
Amazon’s Elastic Compute Cloud has been experiencing issues today. Elastic Compute Cloud, or EC2 is Amazon’s affordable cloud-based Web hosting service and has helped grow many popular startups in social media. Unfortunately, Amazon has been working through kinks this morning with technical issues in the EC2.
Popular services like Foursquare, Reddit, Quora, Hootsuite, and Moby experienced the rumble. Amazon, one of the world’s leading cloud services providers allows affordable pricing that enables smaller companies to grow into their bigger potentials. The downside to all this of course is that many sites are hosted to the same service, and a outage like the one experienced today can easily wipe out the social experience for many.
Currently, only two servers are still down. CNET reported earlier that Quora’s homepage wrote, “We’ll be back shortly, we hope. Sorry, it sucks for us too. We’d point fingers, but we wouldn’t be where we are today without EC2.” Quora, Reddit, and Hootsuite still show error messages, but users can browse some of the sites without being able to log in. Hopefully Amazon is able to fix whatever disaster has happened, or “social” is gonna be a little angry!
