Corsair Unleashes 8GB RAM Stick @ 2400MHz
Corsair has just revealed a new memory kit (shown top only) that claims to be the world’s fastest production 8GB PC memory kit. The memory module is called the Dominator GTX 8GB dual-channel DDR3 kit and is programmed to operate at 2400MHz with a latency setting of 9-11-10-30 and run on 1.65 Volts. The memory was tested on an Intel P55 motherboard and the module ships out with Corsair’s prize-winning DHX+ heatsink as well as an AirFlow 2 GTL Cooling Fan.
Corsair’s primary goal in creating such a powerful stick of RAM was to see how computer enthusiasts would make use of the technology. The cost of one of these sticks is $499. Granting 32GB of RAM on a capable motherboard would run consumers over $2,000 for just the memory, not including a processor, motherboard, hard drive, computer case, and graphics card.
Although powerful, an 8GB memory module is not necessary for 99% of computer users. Perhaps if one rendered gigabytes of HD videos each day, maybe, they would need 32GB of power. However, even with all that rendering, I think 12GB to 16GB would suffice for those needs.
