Hacked Fox News Twitter Feed Reports Death Of President Obama

The Fox News Twitter feed has reportedly been hacked on Monday, with a series of tweets announcing that President Barack Obama had been assassinated.

According to the Guardian News blog, the first tweet to announce that Obama had been shot dead was sent by @foxnewspolitics at approximately 2am local time to its feed’s 33,000 followers. The tweets were rapidly shared on the internet.

A group or individuals, calling themselves ”The Script Kiddies” appeared to claim responsibility. The phrase “Script Kiddie” is an internet slang for an inexperienced person who uses off-the-shelf hacking technology, developed by other people.

National media outlets in the U.S., including Fox News itself, carried no such reports. Fox News ran a story on its website acknowledging the hack, saying it “regrets any distress the false tweets may have created.” The false tweets came on a major U.S. holiday, the Independence Day.

The tweets stayed up on Fox News’ Twitter page for 2 hours before the network caught wind and decided to take them down.

Meanwhile, a website named Thinksb.com, claims to have interviewed one of the members of Scriptkiddies. The unnamed source claims that some of its members originally came from the hacker group Anonymous. The source claims that they want to work with Anonymous on their “AntiSec” movement. The source is quoted as saying, “Fox News was selected because we figured their security would be just as much of a joke as their reporting.”

The twitter officials could not be reached for a comment in the meantime.
