Leak: Sony Going Deep With Virtual Reality
Hopefully the days of a silly console controller are over. I’ve said it before, but I am getting tired of playing console games with the dual joy-stick. Sure, it was awesome in 2002, but times are changing and we are living in a world where we want to interact more with our media.
Think about how Google+ has their hangouts, a rich way to communicate with one another via videochat, and how about the new Wii U and the touch-screen controller? The Xbox Kinect? The more you think about it, the clearer it becomes- the concept of fun is being defined by how much we can do with our gadgets, and Sony might be catching on.
Sony showed us a head mounted device back at this years CES that features two OLED screens inside. According to Mike Hocking, at Sony Worldwide Studios, Sony has been working hard at their virtual reality prototype at Sony’s Research & Development and they have already tested the technology on a few new games.
Hocking claims that he wants gamers to be immersed in ‘real world’ games, without the distraction of outside sources.
Okay, so this doesn’t mean you should forget about feeding your dog, but just those little distractions in life such as roommates walking in and out of the living room, or outside ‘noise’.
So far, we aren’t sure whether we will see virtual reality gear come out for the current PS3 or if gamers will have to wait for PS4, but it’s interesting news indeed.
