Sony Brings Qriocity Video Service To Smartphones

Sony recently introduced an app for Android devices called “Music Unlimited” which allowed Android users to listen to their favorite tracks on Qriocity powered cloud based music service.

Following the same tracks, Sony is planning to bring the Qriocity video service to Sony Ericsson smartphones. However, this service would be initially available on only a number of selected handsets. Currently, Sony plans to launch it only on its Sony Ericsson Xperia smartphones.

The service will allow users to buy and/or rent movies and TV shows from all the major studios including Universal, Paramount Pictures, Sony Pictures, NBC, Warner Bros, Twentieth Century Fox as well as local studios. Users will be able to select from a vast catalog of past and present releases.

The service will be available in 9 countries: UK, France, Germany, Spain, Italy, Australia, Japan, Canada and the United States with localized content and movies. Initially, only Xperia Mini and Xperia Mini Pro will feature this new service.

However, Sony plans to bring it to other smartphones such as Xperia arc, Xperia neo, Xperia PLAY, Xperia pro and Xperia acro through a software update later on. While the Xperia Active and Xperia Ray, which are yet to hit the stores, will come preloaded with Qriocity media. Sony plans to launch this service on the 1st of August.
