New Malware Turns Your Droid Into A Bot

Google removed around 24 applications from the Android Marketplace last week due to excessive Malware and virus problems. According to the North Carolina State University Blog, a new type of malware called DroidKungFu works like the previously removed DroidDream, although deadlier.

DroidKungFu works through a security bypass on the affected mobile device. The latest malware acts as a trojan (or a backdoor that gives hackers full control of the phone). Not only can this expose all user data, but it can also turn the phone into a bot, forcing the phone to do whatever the hacker wants.

7% Of All Downloads Are Infected

Microsoft has recently claimed that one out of every 14 programs downloaded by Windows users are malicious, so be careful with your trigger-happy fingers, especially after you’ve had that second cup of coffee. Although some modern browsers have quite a few security features to help protect users against Internet danger, about 5% of these people ignore the warnings and download the malicious Trojan horse programs anyway.

First Dynamic Firewall For Android, WhisperMonitor

That said, Moxie Marlinspike released the first dynamic Android firewall today called WhisperMonitor.

The firewall was specifically designed for Android phones and monitors all outbound connection attempts by installed applications and the operating system.
