United Airlines Suffers Massive Computer Outage

Friday night caused mayhem for man, as United Airlines passengers were left stranded due to a computer outage that had lasted a number of hours. Although technology is often a blessing, it can also be a curse.

The power came back as of 12:35 AM PST on Friday as the airline tweeted a message saying so. At the United terminal in San Francisco Airport, over a thousand people were standing around as the lines slowly started to move. I can only hope that there were no crying children in the mix.

American Airlines Offers Internet @ Streaming Speeds

American Airlines announced on Tuesday that it was testing a new video service for its in-flight Wi-Fi connection. Instead of using movies that are already stored on the plane, the airline would stream TV live to consumer smartphones directly on the plane. Although there was no mention of any platforms, analysts predict that Android and iOS products would be the first to receive support.

The system is backed on the reliable Aircell system and is already being tested on two Boeing 767 cross-ocean jets. Customers will be able to enjoy a demo of the service this coming summer.

American Airlines Offers First App For Nook Color

The Barnes & Noble’s Nook Color eReader received an update this week that allowed the ability to run apps, check email, and act a lot like an Android tablet, and less of a boring eReader. There will also be third part apps offered on the Nook Color, with American Airlines being one of the first. The airline has its app available on the Nook Color. The app is already offered on other Android and Apple devices, however remains a novelty on the Nook.
