ARM Processors Aiming To Dominate Notebook Industry?

In the news is the ARM processor technology which has already taken over the smartphone and tablet industry and is now preparing to dominate the personal computing market. According to a market analyst IHS isuppli, in 2015, the ARM processor would be present in 20 percent of the shipped notebooks.

ARM processors require low power, cost less and are high performing pieces of tech which will take benefit of Windows 8, Microsoft’s new operating system to power notebooks; as its the first ever operating system to support ARM processor on notebooks.

AMD’s A8 Processor Pushed To 4.9GHz

AMD’s A8 Llano APU (accelerated processing unit) has just been taken to new heights in the overclocking world. A Japanese team of computer enthusiasts tried their hand at overclocking with an AMD A8-3850 processor (defaults at 2.9GHz), a Gigabyte GA-A75-UD4H motherboard, and a cooler that runs on liquid nitrogen.

Of course, hardly any enthusiasts use liquid nitrogen to cool their computer hardware, and we definitely don’t think your processor will last very long running at 5GHz, but it’s always cool to be able to say that you did it.

Asus Rolls Out Affordable Eee All-In-One PC

Asus has just rolled out its all new All-In-One (AIO) PCs. Named the Eee Top ET1611PUT, the 15.6″ AIO is based on Intel Atom architecture. Users can also opt for a larger 20″ model, called the Eee Top ET2011AUKB.

Interestingly enough, the computers are available with or without an operating system-making it convenient to load Linux, OS X, or any other operating system of your choice. The 15.6″ model puts out an unimpressive 1366 x 768 pixel resolution on a single-touch anti-glare screen.

Tilera Announces 100-Core Processor, Draws 45 Watts Of Power

Tilera on Tuesday had announced a new CPU with 100 processing cores, which the company aims to break the duopoly in the processing market, dominated by Intel and AMD (Advanced Micro Devices). The new low-power 100-core TileGX 3100 chip was designed to handle large volumes of Internet transactions.

The chips operate at speeds between 1GHz and 1.5 GHz, drawing 48 watts of power. These chips are superior to Intel server chips because they can execute more transactions per cycle while using less power.

Console-Based Battlefield 3 Available Only In 720p

PC users will rejoice when hearing this news. DICE has recently claimed that the new Battlefield 3 game (which is available for both console and PC) will only run in 720p on game consoles, at 30 frames per second.

The PC version, however, will run at 1080p at 60 frames per second. If you just bought a new graphics card for your desktop computer, you made a good choice. And, if you just got a new Xbox360, well, you’ve always got Halo to look forward to.

11 New AMD-Powered Notebooks, From HP

If you’re on the market looking for a new PC, your job just got a lot harder. Computer maker, Hewlett-Packard has just announced a crazed wave of new notebooks that will get you excited for this summer. Each of the new notebooks will feature AMD’s Vision technology, a step up above of the previous Fusion Accelerated Processing Units (APU). The result? Smaller and more light weight full-sized notebooks.

The HP DV series, which has been around for a while, are all getting CoolSense, True Vision HD webcam, and HP’s Beats Audio (on the DV6 and DV7 only). The DV series (DV4, DV6, and DV7) will also be enjoying 2x the graphics power compared to previous generations allowing a new gaming standard, even for those who opt out for a discrete graphics card.

Acer Orders 80,000 AMD Z Processors For New Tablet?

It looks like Acer has just placed a big order for AMD Z series APUs for a possible new tablet lineup. The company placed an order for 80,000 of the AMD processors, and the new tablets are likely going to dive into the enterprise market.

No clue on whether or not the new tablets will feature Android’s new Ice Cream Sandwich or Windows 7 but I would vote for the less expensive operating system. Although, Windows may just be the victor, since I can’t imagine businesses adopting the Android platform, unless maybe they’re a startup.

Oversee Desktop Performance From Your Phone

Graphics card and motherboard manufacturer, MSI, has coupled with a software programmer named Nick Connors to create a version of the Afterburner overclocking program for the Android operating system. With the awesome new app, users will be able to fine tune their processing settings on and desktop or laptop over a shared WiFi connection.

Of things that can be tweaked and tuned include; frequency, temperature, voltage, and fan speed. In order to get everything set up, the user must first install the appropriate software (Afterburner program) on the host PC before anything can be modified.
