Android Refreshes Market With Movies & Book Sections

Google has just launched another Android market for phones for all you folks using Froyo and later. The new market looks a lot fresher and offers a wider variety of content to choose from.

Besides the eye-catching new layout, users can now swype between windows of applications offering a seamless Google experience, and feeling more user friendly than the previous version.

Awesome Android Arcade Game: Radiant HD

If you own an Android tablet or Android phone and haven’t found many uses for it yet, know that there are some killer games out there on the Android platform that will be sure to deliver hours of fun. One game in particular, Radiant HD, is an arcade-like game similar to Swarm or Alien Invasion in that your spaceship must fight off rows and trails of aliens.

The game features over 100 levels, over 10 boss fights, with 6 upgradeable weapons and 12 special power-ups. In between the battle sessions and waves of enemies, is a modest and witty storyline, written to keep you in tune.

New Starbucks App For Android

Starbucks has just launched the Starbucks for Android app, giving consumers a fast way to pay and manage their Starbucks Card-on-the-go. The new app will soon support Starbucks located inside Safeways and VONS throughout the country.

Users will be able to pay with their phone, reload a Starbucks card balance, check rewards, and find nearby coffee shops for their morning fix. The app requires Android 2.1 (Eclair) or later and is a great way to speed up your morning routine.

Acer Orders 80,000 AMD Z Processors For New Tablet?

It looks like Acer has just placed a big order for AMD Z series APUs for a possible new tablet lineup. The company placed an order for 80,000 of the AMD processors, and the new tablets are likely going to dive into the enterprise market.

No clue on whether or not the new tablets will feature Android’s new Ice Cream Sandwich or Windows 7 but I would vote for the less expensive operating system. Although, Windows may just be the victor, since I can’t imagine businesses adopting the Android platform, unless maybe they’re a startup.

Game Emulators Yanked From Android Market

Game emulators are programs that are available for download through mobile, desktop, and laptop devices, that allow users to simulate game consoles and play games they enjoy without having to pay for the console. The player usually just plays the game through mouse and keyboard instead of controller, but one could easily configure a game controller by obtaining the right hardware and software.

A third party Android app developer by the name of Yong Zhang has recently had his popular game console emulators yanked out of the Android market. His entire selection of apps was removed without warning.

Amazon Launches AppStore, Gives Angry Birds for Free

Amazon.com just launched a store for Android smartphone apps, and in celebration are letting people download Angry Birds for free today. They also said the Android version of the app will now be available exclusively from the Amazon AppStore. Although this already beloved app will return to it’s normal price of $0.99 after today, there will be different free apps available each day. This will not only draw customers to the new AppStore, but will also help promote unknown apps that deserve the attention. Plus, who doesn’t like free apps? Everyone wins here.

Except Apple, who just sued Amazon in attempt to stop the online retailer from using the name “AppStore”.
