ISPs To Punish Illegal Downloaders

Are you one of those people who would rather risk stiff fines and possible jail time than spending money on any digital content? If you have Comcast, AT&T, or Verizon here is your warning that they plan to start cracking down even more if you are caught sharing illegal files.

These ISPs have been working on an agreement with media companies more closely with piracy. Rather than just receiving a warning in the mail you could receive throttled bandwidth or limited access to the Internet.

Comcast CEO Shows Off 1Gbps Internet Speeds

Brian Roberts, the CEO of Comcast, has recently shown off the next-generation cable broadband technology. The new broadband would deliver speeds over 1Gbps to homes. As you can see in the video below, Roberts demonstrates himself downloading 23 episodes of the TV show, 30 Rock in just under two minutes.

Comcast boasted that it is the largest broadband provider in the United States and that the company has big plans for the future. Currently, the technology was only tested on an eleven mile cable network, but it proves the potential of the company as they expand coverage throughout.

Pocket WiFi For $25 By Comcast

Comcast announced on Friday that it will be launching a new 3G/4G personal Mobile Hotspot, provided by Novatel Wireless. The product is known as the Mifi 4082 and is a mobile hotspot that allows up to five WiFi devices to share the Internet. This is obviously perfect for all those times you aren’t at home but need some coverage. It would probably be a great solution to camping trips or those few times where the power goes out.

Comcast Offer 105Mbps Internet Speeds

In Internet speed terms, 5Mbps is a good connection, one should be able to play first person shooter videogames on it without any problems, movies and music download at a reasonable rate. A 10Mbps connection is really fast and will allow you to download gigabytes of data, say if you’re downloading a full featured game, over night. Being able to download 15GB of data in one night still impresses me. Comcast has announced today that they are delivering 105Mbps connections to over 40 million homes around the United States.
