Sprint: AT&T Can Boost Network 6-Fold Without T-Mobile

In what seems like a last ditch effort from Sprint, the wireless carrier offered a solution to AT&T’s weak coverage through an FCC filing. Sprint claims that AT&T could increase its network capacity by 600% by year 2015 simply by making better use of the network resources it has.

Sprint allocates a 250% improvement from AT&T’s unused spectrum for 4G, while introducing a mixed-size network with both large and small cells could boost the network by an additional 300%.

Verizon On The Horizon: 19 More Cities Get LTE

Verizon Wireless has just announced that it will be adding 19 more cities to its blazing fast, LTE wireless network. The rollout begins on Thursday and will bring happiness to many Verizon Wireless customers looking to get faster data times with their usage.

In addition to the increased coverage, previously covered cities such as San Francisco and Detroit will get expanded coverage. This means that if you live in the outskirts of San Francisco and were just out of reach of LTE before, you should be golden soon.

Senators Throwing Punches At AT&T

Sprint isn’t the only one who opposes the AT&T merge with T-Mobile. A few U.S. senators have also spoken up against the deal. Although AT&T spins the deal as one that will help customers nationwide with coverage, a few senators question the spin off. Senator Al Franken from Minnesota stated that the acquisition would allow AT&T to raise prices and cut thousands of jobs. Senator Herb Kohl from Wisconsin also claimed that the merger would give AT&T a 43% share of the U.S. mobile market. AT&T and Verizon would share about 80% of the market if the deal went through, he said.

The N750 From NETGEAR Offers 450Mbps Wireless Speeds

NETGEAR has recently launched a new router that offers dual band wireless transmission at rates up to 750Mbps. The new Dual Band Gigabit Router is called the NETGEAR N750 and the router transmits data simultaneously over both wireless N bands (up to 450Mbps in the 5GHz band) and up to 300Mbps in the 2.5 GHz band.

The N750 also offers a host of parental controls for the concerned parent, as well as implementing a broadband usage meter for those worried about data caps. The router supports DLNA, and easily handles HD video, music, and photos.

If AT&T Merger Goes Thru: T-Mobile 4G Will Be Demolished

AT&T is playing a clever game of words in efforts to have its T-Mobile acquisition pass the FCC. AT&T is promising that T-Mobile customers will get to keep their low rates and existing phones. Doesn’t that sound great? Well, don’t get too excited yet. AT&T plans on demolishing T-Mobile’s blazing fast 4G coverage and creating their own technology that will be incompatible with current T-Mobile phones *and* plans for that matter.

AT&T is hoping that the FCC will not catch this technicality, to ensure a smooth acquisition of T-Mobile. If the deal does go through, we will have two very large wireless carriers (AT&T and Verizon) and little ol’ Sprint tagging along.
