Tilera Announces 100-Core Processor, Draws 45 Watts Of Power

Tilera on Tuesday had announced a new CPU with 100 processing cores, which the company aims to break the duopoly in the processing market, dominated by Intel and AMD (Advanced Micro Devices). The new low-power 100-core TileGX 3100 chip was designed to handle large volumes of Internet transactions.

The chips operate at speeds between 1GHz and 1.5 GHz, drawing 48 watts of power. These chips are superior to Intel server chips because they can execute more transactions per cycle while using less power.

Google Buys Tech Startup, Sparkbuy

A Seattle startup named Sparkbuy has just announced that it has been swallowed up by Google. The purchase comes just one month after Dan Shapiro started the company which had an online service allowing users to compare prices and features of various electronics gadgets. This is the second company Dan Shapiro has sold or merged in the past 18 months.

It is quite common for well known companies to swallow startups, usually more so for the human capital than any products built. As part of the deal however, Google will be shutting down Sparkbuy’s service.

Google Chrome’s New HTML5 Speech Input

Google adds yet another feature to their already popular Chrome web browser. Google mentioned that they would be updating their beta channel by bringing HTML5 speech input API, developed with the HTML Speech Incubator Group.

Google emphasizes this API (Application Programming Interface), because developers can now give apps the ability to transcribe voice to text. All it will take is a simple click of the mouse and speak into your computer’s microphone.
