Facebook Has Been Punked!!

Two Europeans have developed a site using photos, locations and names from Facebook. Their project, Lovely-Faces.com, launched earlier this week with more than 250,000 photos and Facebook is not happy.

The project was based on the theory that social networking is naturally addictive and in our human DNA. Based on their analysis, it’s about exploring something that has never been done before: staying in touch with past and present friends in a single, potentially infinite, virtual space. It is also about connecting and sharing photos and details of your life with a universe filled with millions of people spread across the globe that seems like just a click away.

Free Dating??? Match.com Buys OkCupid For $50 Million

With Valentine’s Day around the corner, you can hear the 1978 classic song “Love Is In The Air” by John Paul Young playing all over and for Match.com, love means business, big business in fact. Match.com, owned by IAC, has bought rival OKCupid for a whopping $50 million in a cash transaction so the two online dating sites are finally tying the knot or if you prefer, getting hitched. Pun intended.

Unlike Match.com which charges for membership, OKCupid is free, so revenues come from advertising. And according to IAC, OKCupid’s revenue has risen faster than that of any other dating site. Probably because people have been hit hard with the economy and have looked for free access to online dating.
