Ford Adds to Its Portfolio – Auto Parking and Auto Driving

Ford has unveiled its latest addition to its active park assist (APA) package — perpendicular park assist. The technology complements the existing parallel park assist, which is currently available on most models. The system will back your car into perpendicular parking lot spots, allowing for perfect parking all the time.

Ford is also looking to tackle is traffic jams. Ford group vice president Raj Nair, comments, “As an engineer we’re always looking for a smarter way, a better way.”

Their plan is to combat congestion and frustration, by introducing Traffic Jam Assist, a technology which can optionally take over driving when the user is in stop and go traffic. The technology is similar to a low-speed cruise control, but adds automated braking and lane-keeping to the mix. Drivers can override the system at any time to change lanes.

Ford Sued Over SYNC Technology

A Washington state technology company filed a patent infringement lawsuit against Ford in federal court.

Eagle Harbor Holdings, and its subsidiary MediusTech, claim Ford used several automotive technologies in Ford, Lincoln, and Mercury vehicles without authorization.

Your Car’s Owners Manual – An iPad App (All Digital)

Last month Hyundai introduced the world to a new concept, having their car’s owner manual on an iPad, something which has not been done before, not even in the luxury lines of BMW, Porshe, Mercedes or Audis, let alone GM or Ford. The automaker made it official that it would be ditching the paper manual for the digital version.

With it, you can view rich multimedia reference guides, locate Hyundai dealers, schedule regular service appointments, read safety warnings and so much more. And I would not be surprised if in the near future, your vehicles diagnostic would be displayed from the app.

They could also enable a feature which allow you to trace the vehicle should it be stolen or have it notify you, via the iPad app of course, when it requires an oil change.
