Protecting Content Made Us Hacker’s Target : SONY

Sony has been under fire since hackers in April accessed personal information on 77 million PlayStation Network and Qriocity accounts, 90 percent of which are users in North America or Europe.

Sony said at the time credit card information may have been stolen, sparking lawsuits and casting a shadow over its plans to combine content and hardware products via online services.

GeoHotz Found A Job At Facebook

It looks like Zuckerberg saw something in well known hacker, George Hotz (GeoHotz) after Hotz hacked the Sony Playstation 3 and got considerable attention from Sony. It wasn’t long though, until Sony dropped the case when they realized Hotz had a secret network of alliances, then known as the anonymous hacking group (and later redubbed Lulz Security).

George Hotz started working for Facebook in May when he was offered a job, but had not publicly announced it until June 17th. His Facebook profile is further confirmation that he is not joking.

Hacker Steals Info From 70 Million Users On PlayStation Network

We’ve been covering the Sony situation with Geohotz, all the way through to the threats of the Anonymous hacking group, to the downtime of the Sony PlayStation Network. Sony would now like to inform you that an unauthorized person has stolen the personal information of 70 million users of the PlayStation Network. The following information has been stolen: name, city, state, zip, country, email address, birth date, PSN password and login, and screenname. Sony is also leaving the possibility that credit card information was also stolen.
