We all remember President Obama threatening the public a few months ago. He basically said that he would take any cyber attack against the US government very seriously and may even counter attack with force.

Well, it seems like a hacker may have found a loophole into attacking the US government, that is, by attacking Government Newspaper publications. 10 military newspapers were hacked earlier this month and just yesterday the military had admitted the hacks.

The United States Senate Judiciary committee has just made illegal video and TV streaming over the Internet, a felony. In most cases, these will be handed to the full Senate for consideration, as Hollywood Reporter reports. The Commercial Felony Streaming Act was introduced by Amy Klobuchar and John Cornyn and applies only to videos, although severe sentences can be given for music piracy and software piracy as well.

This is a huge step taken against digital theft. Previously, the number one targets in the industry were uploaders. The number two targets were downloaders, and video streamers went largely unnoticed.

U.S. Spreads Democracy Through Shadow Networks

The Obama administration is leading a global effort to deploy “shadow” Internet and Mobile phone systems that citizens of repressed governments can use to bypass censorship in their native countries. The initiative is funded with $2 million from a State Department grant and the Internet is deployed from a small briefcase.

The idea is to smuggle the briefcase (full of Internet) across the border and quickly set it up to allow wireless communication over a wide area with a link to the world wide web. This could be the first step out of many that gives people a greater freedom to step up against their government. The new liberation-technology movement involves creating these stealth wireless networks so activists can communicate outside their government’s ears in countries like Iran, Syria, and Libya.
