Leak: Sony Going Deep With Virtual Reality

Hopefully the days of a silly console controller are over. I’ve said it before, but I am getting tired of playing console games with the dual joy-stick. Sure, it was awesome in 2002, but times are changing and we are living in a world where we want to interact more with our media.

Think about how Google+ has their hangouts, a rich way to communicate with one another via videochat, and how about the new Wii U and the touch-screen controller? The Xbox Kinect? The more you think about it, the clearer it becomes- the concept of fun is being defined by how much we can do with our gadgets, and Sony might be catching on.

Sony Invests $20M In Independent Games

Sony, this week, announced a three year investment to increase its PlayStation Network user base. After the devastating attacks occurred at Sony, the company is trying to figure out what they can do to give them a better edge against Microsoft’s Xbox 360 and a better foothold in the gaming industry.

This is not to say that Sony has slipped to third spot, at least not yet, but I feel that the company is trying to take preventative care before it is too late.

Gamevil Invests $10M To Partner With US Developers

South Korean mobile game developer, Gamevil is aiming to tap into the US market and has today announced that it will invest $10 million in US partnerships with American game developers. The end goal, of course, is for Gamevil to deliver their high quality game titles to popular smartphone operating systems.

With smartphones becoming ever increasing, it’s hard not to know someone without an iPhone, Windows Phone, or Android device. Although a South Korean company, its headquarters are located in Los Angeles, California.

Next Generation Xbox Unveiled At E3 2012

According to VideoGamer, it looks like Microsoft is planning to unveil its all-new Xbox360 successor at next years E3 trade show. In fact, Crytek, has already begun creating a new TimeSplitters game for the new console.

No clue on what we can expect the specs to be but we do know that the next gen console will run on DirectX 11 (the same platform that the latest Windows 7 PCs run on). Both Microsoft and Crytek declined to comment on the issue, perhaps hoping to make it more of a surprise as the next E3 closes in.

New Study: The Average Gamer Is 37 Years Old

Don’t worry too much if someone has told you that you were too old to be playing video games, they’re wrong. According to a new study released at E3, 72% of Americans play videogames, and of the 72%, 82% of gamers are adults.

The research was collected from 1,200 nationally representative households that were identified as owning either a video console or a PC that was used to play videogames. It turns out that the average American gamer is 37 years old, and has been playing for 13 years.
