Facebook Hoax Spreading Like Wildfire

Unfortunately, some people take advantage of hacking frenzies like the ones we’ve been facing, to create hoax threats and scares because they know that contextual cues will help the hoax be believable.

It doesn’t help that the media preys on fear of its viewers, because fear sells. People innately seek to be fearful of something because it has been beneficial to the survival of our ancestors, and thus, we carry the same trait.

Google Refuses To Censor Search Results For U.S. Government

The House and Senate are working to block websites that promote illegal activities such as piracy sites like thepiratebay.org. At the COICA (Combating Online Infringement and Counterfeits Act) hearing, SVP of Google, Kent Walker came to defend Google’s stance in search engine censorship. Congressman Goodlattes argued that a search for “free mp3 taylor swift” brought up a bunch of results from unlicensed sites, and a search for “watch movies online” led to a Google suggestion for “watch free bootleg movies online.”

Walker said that although Google was willing to help, many sites such as ThePirateBay do have legitimate aspects within their website and Google didn’t want to be the “judge, jury, and executioner” for websites. Walker went further in saying that Google doesn’t know which sites are authorized outlets for music and movies.

Harmful Android App Designed To Discourage Piracy

A new application is out to harm Android users. The app is a fake copy of the legitimate “Walk and Text”, a program that uses the smartphone’s camera to show what’s in front of the user while she simultaneously walks and texts. Users can download the program via Google’s official Android Market app store as well as a few unofficial e-marts. You can but the legitimate app for $1.54.
