IBM Makes First Graphene Circuit W/ Exponential Power

IBM has just introduced the world’s first integrated circuit, that is made of carbon allotrope graphene. CAG is a semiconductor that could push clock speeds much further than the traditional silicon-based wafers. Graphene has a microscopic crystal structure that allows processors to use smaller processes than silicon technology, allowing extremely large advances in processor clock speeds.

A jump like this would be like going from a megabyte to a gigabyte. IBM has currently demonstrated graphene-based transistors running at 100GHz, two and a half times faster than the current 40GHz (state-of-the-art transistors).

Apple Set To Build Spaceship-Like Campus

Apple has plans to build a new campus with a circular building, that looks a lot like a spaceship. The new building will be based in Cupertino, near the company’s headquarters in Silicon Valley and will house 12,000 Apple employees. Apple claims that the building is necessary to keep up with the company’s growth.

The lot was purchased from HP as the company had to downsize during the recession. Steve Jobs said it was same property he once worked at when he was offered a job at HP in 1969, and that the lot had a special place in his heart.

Apple’s Foxconn Reopens After Deadly Explosion

Apple’s supplier, Foxconn has resumed operations at its Chengdu plant in China, after an explosion killed three employees last month. The company has ended its investigation into the incident and has implemented safeguards that it claims will prevent a similar situation from happening.

The company stated that the accident was due to an explosion of aluminum dust in a ventilation duct, and that the company has solved this issue by improving workshop ventilation (as if employee air quality wasn’t reason enough).
