New Bill Requires Carriers To Give Guaranteed Min. Data Speed

A new piece of legislation in the U.S. House of Representatives would require mobile carriers to provide a ‘guaranteed minimum’ for their data speeds to their potential customers. This would give customers a better idea of what they are signing up for, especially with unlimited data plans becoming a rarity.

Currently, wireless carriers provide a maximum speed which leaves many customers to assume that if they sign up with the wireless carrier, they too will receive similar speeds as the maximum. Unfortunately, this isn’t always the case and leaves many consumers with a bitter taste in their mouth.

Verizon Cancels ‘Unlimited Data’ Plan

Verizon Wireless will join AT&T and T-Mobile, starting next month, by eliminating ‘unlimited data’ plans for mobile phones. Users will have to fork over additional money for fees in excess of their monthly allotment of media and web content.

With the huge influx of tablet PCs and wireless carriers getting stingier by the day, who knows what kind of an effect we will see on tablet PC sales. Will people mainly buy tablets to use on their own WiFi networks?

Senators Throwing Punches At AT&T

Sprint isn’t the only one who opposes the AT&T merge with T-Mobile. A few U.S. senators have also spoken up against the deal. Although AT&T spins the deal as one that will help customers nationwide with coverage, a few senators question the spin off. Senator Al Franken from Minnesota stated that the acquisition would allow AT&T to raise prices and cut thousands of jobs. Senator Herb Kohl from Wisconsin also claimed that the merger would give AT&T a 43% share of the U.S. mobile market. AT&T and Verizon would share about 80% of the market if the deal went through, he said.

Z-Boost METRO Fixes Poor Cell Phone Service

For many people, it is hard to get a good cell phone signal in their own home. This is made more of a burden when the person does not have access to a “higher area” such as a rooftop to plant a high-gain antenna. Fortunately, the Z-Boost METRO YX-540 helps solve that problem. The device makes use of a window-mounted antenna and is designed to enhance weaker cell signals to improve call quality and reliability.

The signal booster is compatible with all wireless carries in the U.S. using 800 & 1900 MHz except Nextel/iDEN or 4G, 2100MHz phones. It was optimized for iPhones and tested on the iPhone 3, 3GS, and 4. In order to find the “best window” for installation, Z-Boost recommends visiting your exterior windows while…

Verizon Says “No Thanks” To Sprint

Verizon Wireless’ CEO is not interested in buying Sprint Nextel, even though Verizon is about to lose its lead in the U.S. wireless market due to AT&T’s recent acquisition. Chief exec, Daniel Mead also expressed a disregard for AT&T’s buy, claiming that they are focused on increasing their own profits. Mead sees no need…
