PayPal Rolls Out Phone-To-Phone NFC Support

As the months continue on, NFC becomes less of a hearsay and more of a reality, and PayPal appears to be one of the founding fathers leading the movement. Although Google took a major leap forward when it said that it will support NFC payments, we have yet to see a full rollout on Android devices.

PayPal has just announced something a bit more interesting however, it now supports NFC payments for Android through phone-to-phone contacts. With this system, the need for a contactless reader to read the mobile payment is not needed.

Paypal Sues Google For Stolen Trade Secrets

Google announced their new mobile payment system, based on NFC technologies that allows cellphone users to tap their phone to pay for things. People call it a mobile e-wallet because you no longer have to whip out your wallet, unfold it, and look for the appropriate tender. Instead, users just need to tap their phone to a mobile e-reader and the credit card is charged automatically. It’s faster, more efficient, and more fun to use.

Sounds like a dream come true, right? Well it looks like Paypal isn’t too happy about Google’s big announcement as they are filing a lawsuit against Google in California Superior Court. Claiming that a former PayPal exec (and now Google employee) leaked certain trade secrets.

Visa’s NFC Coming This Fall

Visa is following through with its promise last week of a new mobile payment system. The company will be creating a mobile wallet that uses NFC wireless technology with the credit card’s firm payWave app to buy items in stores as well as online. Some of the banking institutions already onboard with near-fields communication technology include Barclaycard US, Pentagon Federal Credit Union, and US Bank, as well as most major Canadian banks.
