HP Plans August Release For 64GB TouchPad

According to some leaked roadmap slides, Hewlett-Packard is planning to follow up on its just-released first TouchPad tablet with a “white glossy” model due out in August that sports a more powerful processor and 64GB of internal storage.

There will be a 4G edition with HSPA+ model of the TouchPad as well which is tipped to arrive on AT&T. Apart from the change in modem, everything else about this model will be the same as the current 32GB model.

Google To Acquire Punchd

It seems that Google is about to acquire Punchd to improve their Wallet product. The deal, said to be worth over $10 million, would provide Google with a mobile loyalty card system built on the Android and iOS platforms, which would be perfect for Google Wallet.

Google Wallet could definitely use Punchd to improve its current loyalty provisions. Their system relies heavily on NFC wireless, and Punchd’s system relies on QR codes.

Anonymous Hacks FBI Contracted Firm

Anonymous has dumped files about IRC Federal, a government contracted IT firm, in honor of their F**k FBI Friday ‘holiday’. They’ve gotten access to contracts, internal documents, development schematics, logins and more.

Nothing of great importance had been leaked, but Anonymous did leave a message for the company asking them to stop working for the government.

Intel Cloud In A Box – World’s Smallest Cloud Data Center

Billing it as “the world’s smallest data center”, Intel’s cloud technology demonstrator is basically two 1U servers in a package that fits into a common rolling suitcase.

Designed to show that Intel is already powering the cloud with its Xeon processors, the technology demonstration is also meant to highlight Intel’s other efforts to bring their Cloud 2015 vision to reality.

eBay Inc. Acquires Zong

eBay said this morning that it is acquiring Zong, a venture-backed mobile payments provider, for about $240 million in cash.

Zong works with more than 250 mobile network operators worldwide, offering localised payment services on a user’s mobile phone or PC through their carrier billing. Consumers have to enter their mobile phone numbers and then, in a matter of seconds, Zong verifies that number and clears the payment on the customer’s existing wireless service account.

Facebook To Fail Google Plus With Skype Video Chat

Facebook’s video chat feature has finally been launched, revealing what many technology blogs had already predicted: video chat is now available on the service and is powered by the hugely popular Skype.

The bond between Skype and Facebook has grown stronger since Microsoft acquired Skype a month ago — not to mention that Microsoft has a small stake in Facebook.

Murdoch Group In Hacking Crisis

Rupert Murdoch’s media company News International was in turmoil on Tuesday with its United Kingdom chief executive Rebekah Brooks facing calls to resign or be sacked following fresh revelations in the long-running phone-hacking scandal surrounding its tabloid newspaper, the News of the World (NoW), relating to the period when she was its editor.
