Buying OS X Lion With PayPal, That Will Be $3880

It seems like something fishy is happening in PayPal, at least when it comes to people buying Apple’s new operating system OS X Lion, through the platform. According to Apple’s support forums, one person claims that they were overcharged nearly $4,000 on July 28th.

The bill showed up as 122 charges of $31.79 a pop. Apple claims it is PayPal’s fault, and PayPal is saying just the opposite, both are investigating, but in the meantime, the victim claims to be ‘stuck broke’.

Netflix Embedded In Google Chrome OS (Leaked News)

For those of you who aren’t already aware, Google is launching an operating system later this year dubbed Chrome OS. Essentially, it is a lightweight operating system that is designed around Google’s current Chrome web browser. Currently, there is no support for Netflix because it requires the Microsoft Silverlight plugin, a plugin that only runs on Windows and OS X.

There is however, an open source implementation of Silverlight (known as Moonlight), but unfortunately, Moonlight does not support Netflix and Chrome doesn’t support Moonlight. The whole situation is a bit of a mess, but the team at The Chrome Story have recently found…

Mac OS No Longer “Bulletproof”

InfoWorld’s Security Adviser Roger Grimes has argued that “obscurity is the greatest security defense a platform can have” and notes that Windows and Internet Explorer have been hit more successfully than Mac or Safari. Grimes notes that even when MacSweeper (malware that had targeted the Mac) was novel, the Mac OS had proven to be nearly bulletproof. Unfortunately, as many experts have predicted, Mac specific malware has become more and more common.

Ultimate Private Browsing Through Chrome

I know there are a lot of people out there who are supporters of Google but aren’t too fond of the amount of data that is being stored by them. Google’s Chrome browser will be getting an option that will ensure Adobe Systems’ Flash Player isn’t getting “in the way.”

Web sites often store details about a user through cookies (small text files) that record details such as usernames, browsing history, and advertisements that have been seen. Unfortunately, due to previous storage methods, even if a user deletes his or her cookies, the web site can still reconstruct particulars from the Flash data.

The New And Improved VLC Player For OS X

The open-source non-profit organization, VideoLAN has updated their code for VLC Media Player 1.1.8. The biggest feature of this new version is the cosmetic change to look better suited for the Mac OS X operating system. For those who aren’t familiar with VideoLAN, VLC player is their most well known product for being able to play a large variety of media files (ones that cannot be played by more common software applications like Windows Media Player.) This new flavor of the VLC player comes strapped with codec updates, language updates, and new encoder packages. The great thing about VLC player as I previously mentioned, is that it contains so many built-in codecs that allow…
