NASA Discovers New Fuel: Animal Fat

ets usually run on high-octane oil byproducts, however, NASA has tested jets running on fuel based animal fat. In March and April of this year, researchers at the NASA Dryden Flight Research Center in California tested biofuel made of chicken and beef waste fat in the engine of a DC-8 airplane. NASA hopes that the study makes people realize that biofuels do not necessarily have to come from plant sources. According to NASA, fuel can come from algae or rendered animal fat. NASA doesn’t believe that fossil fuels are necessary as a fuel source.

The researchers tested the new animal-based biofuel through an engine burning Jet Propellant 8 fuel, similar to the industry standard Jet-A used in commercial aircraft.

Explore The NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory For Free!

NASA first integrated with Twitter back in 2009, and has been networked closely with the social media service ever since. The latest Tweetup will include NASA choosing 120 Twitter followers at random to visit the Jet Propulsion Laboratory on Monday, June 6th. NASA notes that since only four space missions left for this year and an asteroid belt encounter almost underway, 2011 will be one of the busiest years in planetary exploration.

Google Buys Wind Energy Until 2031

Today is Earth Day, and it marks a day of making better decisions for our planet. After spending nearly $275 million dollars on renewable energy, Google is not falling short of expectations this time. Google has announced today that it has signed a power purchase agreement for wind energy in Oklahoma. Mayes County Oklahoma will have a fully operational data center by the end of 2011 thanks to wind energy.
