PlayStation Comic Store On PSP Is Shutting Down

Launched back in 2009, the PSP’s Digital Comics Reader grew a loyal consumer base as the library of comics swelled past 4,000. However, if you were a fan of the service, we have got some bad news for you – no more comics will be coming to the PSP.

Since the launch of the service , the digital comics store has provided many comics from publishers such as Marvel, DC, and IDW. A very small handful of those comics are actually free, so you might as well check them out.

Sony Music Ireland Website Got Hacked

Sony Music Ireland said its web site was hacked Monday after three bogus news stories appeared on the homepage. It was the latest in a string of attacks on Sony dating back to the infiltration of its PlayStation and Qriocity networks in April.

One fake article at the Sony Music Ireland site had the headline “Tragedy Strikes The Script” and reported the death of two band members. Sony issued a statement that said the band members are indeed fine. The hackers also posted fake articles about Rebecca Black, R Kelly and “X Factor” contestants.

Sony Set To Launch New PS4 In 2012

According to a post at DigiTimes, Sony will begin manufacturing the PS4 in late 2011 in order to be ready for a 2012 launch. Further, the PS4 will have full-body motion controls similar to what Microsoft has done with Kinect, and Sony plans to ship at least 20 million units in 2012.

Desperate to revive flagging sales, Sony is believed to have bought the launch date forward in an effort to boost revenues from their Playstation Division as consumers stop buying Sony Bravia TVs.

PlayStation Network To Be Fully Restored This Week

When the Sony’s PSN website was targeted by hackers back in April, the site was taken down with millions of users unable to access the service. The service was down for around a month in most of the world, but users in Japan are still waiting for the full service to come back online. But today we have some good news as the PlayStation Network is to finally be fully restored with Japan PS Store switch on.

Sony previously announced deadlines for recovery, including an announcement on April 21 that it might be “a full day or two” before PSN was restored. On May 1, Sony Executive Deputy President Kazuo Hirai promised restoration by the end of that week. Two weeks later, on May 14, the company announced the first phase of the network’s resumption. And most recently, Sony has promised full restoration by the end of the week.

US Supreme Court Rejects Ban On Violent Games

The US Supreme court has recently rejected the 2005 California law that banned the sale or rental of violent video games to anyone under age 18. Now, parents could still purchase these violent games for their children, but any store caught selling the game to a minor could face a fine up to $1,000.

The court ruled against the ban 7-2, in accordance with the free speech rights found in the US constitution. Contrary to some beliefs that violent video games pose a bad influence on young children, the courts upheld that they did not want to filter what children are exposed to and essentially left that duty up to the parents or caretakers of the child.

GeoHotz Found A Job At Facebook

It looks like Zuckerberg saw something in well known hacker, George Hotz (GeoHotz) after Hotz hacked the Sony Playstation 3 and got considerable attention from Sony. It wasn’t long though, until Sony dropped the case when they realized Hotz had a secret network of alliances, then known as the anonymous hacking group (and later redubbed Lulz Security).

George Hotz started working for Facebook in May when he was offered a job, but had not publicly announced it until June 17th. His Facebook profile is further confirmation that he is not joking.

Next Generation Xbox Unveiled At E3 2012

According to VideoGamer, it looks like Microsoft is planning to unveil its all-new Xbox360 successor at next years E3 trade show. In fact, Crytek, has already begun creating a new TimeSplitters game for the new console.

No clue on what we can expect the specs to be but we do know that the next gen console will run on DirectX 11 (the same platform that the latest Windows 7 PCs run on). Both Microsoft and Crytek declined to comment on the issue, perhaps hoping to make it more of a surprise as the next E3 closes in.

Sony’s Last Words Before Court Hearing

CEO of Sony Computer Entertainment, Kazuo Hirai offered an explanation for the Sony attacks less than a week before Sony’s June 2nd court date. Hirai undoubtedly pins the attacks to the Anonymous group who made a number of threats against Sony, immediately after Sony decided to pursue George Hotz for teaching others how to pirate. Let me also remind you that a file was found deep in Sony’s network that carried the slogan of the Anonymous group, “We are Legion” and the file was called “Anonymous.” Assuming Anonymous isn’t being framed by some rival hacking group (if there is one), all fingers point to them.

Sony Offers Premium 7.1 Ch. Gaming Headset

Sony has launched an awesome new gaming headset that will allow PlayStation 3 gamers to game in style. The wireless PS3 stereo headset is equipped to deliver consumers premium 7.1 virtual surround sound. So how does this stack up compared to other gaming headsets?

Well, for starts, this one provides on-screen information about its battery status and sound controls giving gamers plenty of advance notice to consider possibly recharging their headsets before the next big game. The headset also includes a retractable mic so you can extend it a further distance when you’re feeling a bit over-caffeinated and your friends perceive you as being “loud.”

Xbox 360 Will Get Full Stereoscopic 3D

A new report states that Microsoft will reveal full stereoscopic 3D capabilities for its Xbox 360 gaming console at E3 this June. EuroGamer claims that the stereo 3D support is expected to work similar to PS3’s three dimensional effect and feature an HDMI 1.4 stereoscopic 3D in 1280 x 1470 twin 720p, allowing 720p to work with each eye.

Hardware-wise, the new Xbox360 won’t have anything to be desired beyond the 3D option and if you’re not into 3D, there won’t be much use for this new version.
