Google Plus Runs Out Of Space And Spams Users

In a quick succession, several Google Plus users were bombarded with multiple email notifications spamming their inbox due to a coding error after which the service that kept track of Google Plus notification system ran out of disk space.

Since its launching in a limited field test two weeks ago, Google Plus has captured “millions” of users. The social party began with mostly tech journalists and tech insiders, before Google had to shut down invites. Google briefly re-opened the social network to the public last Thursday.

Google Launches Prizes Site

Last year Google acquired Slide, a company best known for its 3rd-party Facebook apps and photo sharing software. It was also founded by PayPal co-founder Max Levchin. Now it seems Slide is reappearing in a different guise running the new website Prizes.org.

Prizes.org is a social contest website wherein users can create contests for problems that need solutions. They can post some questions or tasks, and the person who can give the best answer will win a cash price.

Apple To Decide On Google Plus App

Google has asked Apple to approve a mobile version of its social networking site Google Plus for iPhones and iPads.

Google has a mobile web version of Google+ that runs pretty well on the iPhone (and is accessible by other smartphone browsers). But a genuine iPhone app would undoubtedly be faster and offer more features (like notification messages), that would give iPhone users a similar experience to the existing Google Plus Android app.

Google Plus Scam Spreading Via Fake Invites

Google Plus is still in the trial phase and participation is by invite only at the moment. The invites are rare, which has led to people begging on sites such as Twitter for someone to send them an invite. This has played straight into the criminals’ hands.

The fake invites to join Google Plus look very like the genuine invitations, clicking on the links in the email will take the victim to Canadian Family Pharmacy, not Google Plus.

For a few brief hours Wednesday evening, Google allowed current users of its newly unveiled social network, Google+, to send out invites to whomever their hearts desired. That option was swiftly shut down, however, after an sudden onslaught of people came rushing to the site in hoards.

“We’ve shut down invite mechanism for the night. Insane demand,” announced Google’s head of social media Vic Gundotra on his Plus profile. “We need to do this carefully, and in a controlled way.”

Google Acquires RSS Startup, PostRank

Google acquired PostRank yesterday. Postrank is an RSS startup, and the move proves to be a continuation of Google’s strategy to go social. PostRank basically lets users plug into any RSS feed for analysis. The system ranks feeds by the number of comments, inbound links, Twitter shares, Facebook shares, and other social cues.

Analysts are guessing that the PostRank technology will be implemented into Google Analytics, but it is unsure what exactly Google plans to do with the recent buy.
