I don’t think it’s too hard to type the social media URL of your choice into a browser, but I think it’s more of an escape from boredom.

China’s Search Engine, Baidu, Goes Social

China’s top online search engine, Baidu, has just unleashes its new Web 2.0 social bookmarking button called “Baidu Share”, which is currently closed in beta. Users can now embed the Baidu Share Javascript code into their website, which allows visitors to share content from the site to 16 different social networking services.

Of the social networking sites, include, Sohu Microblog, Renren, Kaixin001, Tencent Qzone, Pengyou, and Microblog, Sina Weibo, Taobao’s Tao Jianghu, and Google Buzz.

Google Acquires RSS Startup, PostRank

Google acquired PostRank yesterday. Postrank is an RSS startup, and the move proves to be a continuation of Google’s strategy to go social. PostRank basically lets users plug into any RSS feed for analysis. The system ranks feeds by the number of comments, inbound links, Twitter shares, Facebook shares, and other social cues.

Analysts are guessing that the PostRank technology will be implemented into Google Analytics, but it is unsure what exactly Google plans to do with the recent buy.

Foursquare, Reddit, Quora, Hootsuite, And Moby Experience Simultaneous Meltdown

Amazon’s Elastic Compute Cloud has been experiencing issues today. Elastic Compute Cloud, or EC2 is Amazon’s affordable cloud-based Web hosting service and has helped grow many popular startups in social media. Unfortunately, Amazon has been working through kinks this morning with technical issues in the EC2.

Popular services like Foursquare, Reddit, Quora, Hootsuite, and Moby experienced the rumble. Amazon, one of the world’s leading cloud services providers allows affordable pricing that enables smaller companies to grow into their bigger potentials. The downside to all this of course is that many sites are hosted to the same service, and a outage like the one experienced today can easily wipe out the social experience for many.
