Is HTC Really Going Down?

It seems like confronting Apple legally wasn’t such a good idea, HTC ended up losing the fight and hurting its sales. Normally nothing big is expected from patent lawsuits but that not always is the case. HTC is living examples. Due to the poor economic situation in Europe and the requirement for customs inspections after it lost a patent dispute with Apple, its profit fell down substantially by 57 percent!

Android Dominates Mobile OS Market

The OS war between different mobile operating system vendors is not new. Apple, Google, Microsoft, Nokia, RIM are some of the major contenders.

However, a study that was conducted recently states that Google dominates this pool of contenders with its Android OS. A research firm named Canalys recently carried out this survey which indicated that almost half of the world’s smartphones run Android while there is a major gap between iOS and Android. About 48 percent of the OS market belongs to Android while mere 19 percent is owned by iOS.

Google Buys IBM Patents

Suing rival tech companies has now become child’s play for big IT companies. Consequently every company is trying to decorate its portfolio with as many patents as it can by buying patents from different companies.

Google, which had recently been sued by Oracle for Java patent infringement in development of Android has also decided to take some precautionary measures.

A video of the BlackBerry Bold 9300 has been posted on the site for a brief walkthrough of the smartphone. The phone features a thinner design, along with a QWERTY keyboard and a 2.8 inch capacitive touchscreen display.

RIM Cuts 2,000 Employees!

The BlackBerry maker and Canadian tech giant, Research In Motion (RIM) has broadcasted plans to let go 2,000 employees or roughly a tenth of its labor force. The news was announced in their Q1 2012 financial results.

The action is said to be a part of a previously announced cost-cutting effort. The move comes as the company is facing callous criticism from several employees and industrial analysts. The cutback will have an effect on all functions across the company and are a part of the plan.

Heavy Tablet Production Begins For Fall Season
