Super Moon LED Lamp, A Japanese Symbol Of Hope

A Japanese design studio by the name of Nosigner has created a 3D Lunar Lamp that is illuminated by a LED bulb. The lamp was designed to commemorate the earthquake and tsunami tragedy and looks like a beautiful full moon.

The lamp was first exhibited at a Los Angeles, California design event. The lamp is meant to replicate what the Super Moon looks like (how the moon appeared during the tsunami).

Google Invests $280M On Solar Panels

Google has spent over $700 million so far this year on clean energy. The money will directly fun the installer, SolarCity to offer solar powered systems to homeowners for no down payment. In exchange, customers will have to pay a fixed price for the power produced by the panels.

Google will earn a return on investment by charging SolarCity interest to use its money, allowing Google to also take the benefits of federal and local renewable energy tax credits.

New NASA Mission For 2016: OSIRIS-Rex

NASA has announced yesterday a new space exploration mission. The mission entails launching a spacecraft to an asteroid in 2016 and to use a robotic arm to gather samples in aims to better understand the formation of our solar system and how life began. The mission is called the Origins-Spectral Interpretation-Resource Identification-Security-Regolith Explorer (OSIRIS-Rex) for short.

OSIRIS Rex will be the first United States mission to carry samples from an asteroid back to Earth. The mission will cost us $1 Billion dollars and will take place at the Kennedy Space Center. The asteroid, RQ36 is about 1,900 feet in diameter and about the size of five football fields.

NASA Discovers New Fuel: Animal Fat

ets usually run on high-octane oil byproducts, however, NASA has tested jets running on fuel based animal fat. In March and April of this year, researchers at the NASA Dryden Flight Research Center in California tested biofuel made of chicken and beef waste fat in the engine of a DC-8 airplane. NASA hopes that the study makes people realize that biofuels do not necessarily have to come from plant sources. According to NASA, fuel can come from algae or rendered animal fat. NASA doesn’t believe that fossil fuels are necessary as a fuel source.

The researchers tested the new animal-based biofuel through an engine burning Jet Propellant 8 fuel, similar to the industry standard Jet-A used in commercial aircraft.

Explore The NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory For Free!

NASA first integrated with Twitter back in 2009, and has been networked closely with the social media service ever since. The latest Tweetup will include NASA choosing 120 Twitter followers at random to visit the Jet Propulsion Laboratory on Monday, June 6th. NASA notes that since only four space missions left for this year and an asteroid belt encounter almost underway, 2011 will be one of the busiest years in planetary exploration.
