First Dynamic Firewall For Android, WhisperMonitor

There have been an increasing number of attempts of malware available to Android users. A lot of these applications are disguised as free apps and even if these apps have a five star rating, a low number of ratings can be an indicator that the app you are about to download is malware. That said, Moxie Marlinspike released the first dynamic Android firewall today called WhisperMonitor.

The firewall was specifically designed for Android phones and monitors all outbound connection attempts by installed applications and the operating system.

Malicious Tweet Masked As Lady Gaga Video

If you enjoy the social platform, Twitter, be on the lookout if you choose to use the application today. The anti-virus platform, Sophos has warned that users have been receiving fake invites tempting Lady Gaga fans to have a look at a “banned video.” Users who follow the link will be pointed to a fake YouTube spoof page that will ask for all their twitter details. Those who proceed will have their tweets controller by Spanish-speaking scammers, as reported by a number of victims.

Microsoft Has Gone Phishing

Microsoft has announced a security alert for Xbox Live today. The alert warns gamers of possible phishing attempts through specific messaging features in popular gaming titles such as Modern Warfare 2. Microsoft stated that they are aware of the problem and are working hard to resolve the issue. The company also sent out a standard apology for an “inconvenience” this has caused and thanks gamers for their patience.

Iranian Government Accused Of Large Scale Internet Attack

The Comodo Group, a New Jersey company, has accused Iran’s government of sponsoring an attempted cyber-attack on Google, Microsoft, Mozilla, and Skype. Had the attacks not been discovered, these major websites would have been left open to impersonation. The Comodo group sells digital authentication certificates (guarantee whether a website is legitimate or not). The certificates work through a security protocol called SSL (Secure Sockets Layer).
