NEC Introduces Dual-Screen Tablet

NEC has just announced a new product called the LifeTouch W; a dual-screen Android tablet. Now don’t get too excited just yet, we are only talking about Android 2.2, and not Honeycomb. Despite being a froyo tablet, consumers will be getting two 7″ screens for a total of 14″ of screen real-estate (pretty good for a tablet). The tablet is powered by an ARM Cortex A8/Mobile processor and will have 348MB of RAM and 1GB of ROM. Connectivity-wise, users will access the web through an 802.11b/g/n WiFi or Bluetooth 2.1 +EDR access.

Two Tech Giants Want Piece Of iPad Pie

Samsung isn’t the only guest at the tablet party. HTC and Huawei are also looking to unseat Apple as the dominant tablet player. HTC unveiled the Flyer, a 7-inch Android 2.4 device sporting a 1.5 Ghz Qualcomm Snapdragon CPU, 1 GB of RAM, and both a front and rear-facing camera.

Notable features are the Sense UI layer, which has received very favorable reviews, and built-in pen (stylus) support that can be used with its Scribe apps. One of these apps, dubbed “Timemark” allows the synchronization of audio clips with your written notes, pretty handy in an academic setting where students can take advantage of this, and not risk missing out on any part of an important lecture.
