Android Dominates Mobile OS Market

The OS war between different mobile operating system vendors is not new. Apple, Google, Microsoft, Nokia, RIM are some of the major contenders.

However, a study that was conducted recently states that Google dominates this pool of contenders with its Android OS. A research firm named Canalys recently carried out this survey which indicated that almost half of the world’s smartphones run Android while there is a major gap between iOS and Android. About 48 percent of the OS market belongs to Android while mere 19 percent is owned by iOS.

A No-Contract Dream For $200: Nokia 500

It looks like we may have an introductory touch screen smartphone before the famous Sea Ray debuts. The Nokia N500, a Symbian Anna powered phone, runs on a 1GHz processor (single-core), and while that may not seem like much, Symbian has been known to not use too many computing resources.

The device itself rocks a 3.2″ capacitive touchscreen with a modest 640 x 360 pixel resolution and a 5MP rear-facing camera to snap photos on the go.

Alibaba To Launch Mobile Operating System

Alibaba is one of the E-commerce leading companies of China. The company recently announced in Shanghai that it is planning to launch a mobile operating system; which means, the company will be joining the two colossal OS industries i.e. Google and Apple.

Alibaba is also going to roll out its first smartphone next week in Beijing.

20th century fox has marked another good step in the entertainment industry, bringing movie watching to the next level. Now you’ll be able to watch movies on your Android device with a new feature which Fox brings exclusively to you.

The word on the street is that FOX is introducing a new feature that would allow users to download Fox movies on their Android devices. However, the feature won’t work in a manner allowing users to directly download movies to Android devices, instead, users will first have to buy a physical copy of the movie, thus allowing him/her to download an Android-friendly copy of the movie to the PC which can then be loaded to Android device.

Zitmo: A New Malicious Trojan That Steals Your Bank Info

The people responsible for the horrible ZeuS botnet have started exploiting a vulnerability in mobile banking that allows them to steal bank passwords. The spyware app is a Trojan called Zitmo and it has recently been modified to attack Android devices.

The malware works by posing as bank activation software, in where it preys upon its victims and steals all your bank details as you bank online.

Nokia’s Messaging Business Goes To UK’s Synchronica

The UK-based mobile messaging company Synchronica has inked a deal to take over Nokia’s operator-branded messaging business in a deal worth about $25 million—including a scant $4 million up front and warrants for some 18.3 million common shares in Synchronica.

Synchronica plans to continue to operate and support Nokia’s messaging system, so existing partners and customers shouldn’t’ see any disruptions.

Nokia’s First Windows 7 Phones Due Later This Year

The Finnish cellphone maker, Nokia will introduce its first smartphones with Microsoft Windows Phone 7 operating system later this year. Nokia has been around for quite some time in the mobile world and have a long reputation of attaching itself to the Symbian operating system.

Although Symbian was a solid mobile operating system ten years ago, it fails to meet the intuitive feel of both iOS, Windows Phone 7, and Android. Thus, the announcement of integrating Windows Phone 7 in the new Nokia smartphones are sure to make a number of people smile.

Nokia is jet set to launch the 11th Nokia Connection event in Singapore tomorrow. The company is expected to reveal the highly anticipated Nokia N9 at the conference. For those of you who aren’t familiar with the Finnish phone manufacturers lineup, the N9 is the successor of the well known Nokia N900 smartphone.
