2012 Mobile Devices Will See Quad Core Nvidia Chips

Currently on the mobile market, we are seeing smartphones and tablets teeter between single and dual cores, and while all this is powerful enough for the types of applications we use today, we need to continue to push ourselves if technology is ever to evolve.

I think the applications that will be most intensive on processors will be gaming and perhaps HD movie watching at a better resolution that phones and tablets are currently rocking at the moment.

Tegra 2 Processors Handle LTE Just Fine

There have been a lot of rumors going around that Nvidia’s new Tegra 2 chips do not support LTE devices that have been arriving on the market. I suppose Nvidia was tired of all the hear-say and made a statement, specifically on the phone with Droid-Life.

Nvidia stated that Tegra has no compatibility issues with Long Term Evolution, and that the Tegra-powered Samsung Galaxy Tab 4G LTE tablet runes on Verizon’s LTE network, making it a perfect example of the happy compatibility between the two platforms.

Texas Instruments Introduces OMAP4470, Not a Robot

Texas Instruments has just announced another member of the OMAP 4 family, and it’s a boy! Meet the OMAP4470, a 1.8GHz ARM processor. The new chip is powered by two 1GHz ARM Cortex A-9 MPCore engines, and two 266MHz ARM Cortex-M3 cores.

Texas Instruments believes that the multi-core structure will allow for faster web browsing and more efficient power usage. The goal is to compete with Nvidia’s quad core chips and Intel’s latest Sandy Bridge line. While some may think this goal is a bit far fetched, you have to commend Texas Instruments for having such a goal!

Lenovo Thinkpad TABLET- Leaked!

It looks like some top secret Lenovo information is being leaked out left and right! Just after receiving news about the Thinkpad X1 getting leaked, it appears that our friends at Lenovo are preparing to release a tablet flavor for our computing pleasure.

Apple’s A5 Beats Nvidia’s Tegra 2 Chip

A recent slew of results have shown that Apple’s A5 chip slaughters the Nvidia Tegra 2 silicon when it comes to graphics. Apple claims that the A5 silicon is twice as fast than the previous generation with nine times better graphics. According to Tiernan Ray from Barron’s, Apple’s chip is two and half times larger than Nvidia’s. He goes on to say that the A5 measures 122 square millimeters versus 49 square millimeters for the Tegra 2 chip.

Now, the Tegra 2 chip is manufactured on a 40 nanometer process while the A5 is on a Samsung 45 nanometer process, making Apple’s chip physically larger. Although both chips run on ARM-designed Cortex-A9 processing cores, the Tegra 2 uses Nvidia’s GeForce tetechnologies rather than…
