ThinkPad + IdeaPad Tablets, On The Way

Lenovo’s president, Rory Read has officially announced in an interview that IdeaPad and ThinkPad tablets will hit markets later this year. Consumers can expect both tablets to rock 10″ screens, come with Android Honeycomb, and cost between $450 and….gulp….$900.

The IdeaPad K1 will ship out next month, with the professional-oriented ThinkPad tablet coming this August. I suppose IBM wanted to throw down two Windows 7 tablets before it was “too late” with Windows 8 expected to arrive next year.

Lenovo Speeds Boot Time On ThinkPad T420s

The main reason why people love tablets and smartphones is the instant-on feature that allows consumers to start using their devices immediately. Likewise, the “drawback” of laptops and computers is often the boot time it takes, even if all you need to do is shoot off a single e-mail. Lenovo has realized this “problem” and has engineered its ThinkPad T420s to boot in ten seconds or less due to BIOS optimizations coupled with a solid-state drive.

Great Budget Notebook: Samsung Series 4

We just got word that there is a new Samsung notebook, the Samsung Series 4, model 400B2Bs. The notebook is aimed for ultra mobile users who need something light enough to take with them wherever they go, but powerful enough to handle basic business computing. The machine wasn’t designed to compete with the aesthetics of the MacBook, but when you need a computer, style doesn’t really matter.

Interestingly, it comes with an IBM-style tracking numb embedded within the keyboard that can be used as a mouse. This tracking numb is traditional of most IBM business notebooks. The notebook also has a fingerprint reader for security, and while not a new invention, does complement the business image rather well.

Joining the cloud movement came Lenovo with it’s new “client to cloud” strategy, a service that allows users to couple their computers with cloud computing.
