Samsung Combines Display & Semiconductor Businesses

According to the Wall Street Journal, Samsung will combine its flat-panel display and semiconductor businesses into a single unit. What’s the reason? Well, Samsung didn’t have too good of profits during its first quarter, and mediocre performance during its second quarter.

However, when you combine the two businesses, the semiconductor aspect of Samsung made up 70% of Samsung’s operating profits and 44% total of the company’s revenue. Those are some pretty impressive statistics, and allows its flat-panel display business to piggy back off the semiconductor manufacturing successes.

Intel Develops 22nm Haswell CPU For 2013 Launch

Intel is currently working on its 22 nanometer Haswell computer chips that are due to come out in year 2013. Haswell will enjoy the same power-saving technology, known as tri-gate 3D transistor technology that was first developed in accordance with the Ivy Bridge chip.

Intel boasts on its blog that their floating-point multiply significantly increases peak FLOPS (floating operations per second) and provides enhanced precision to improve their mathematics.

United States Army Will Use Android Smartphones

In a world that doesn’t, DROID DOES. The United States Army wants every soldier to carry an Android smartphone. A prototype running Android that is called the Joint Battle Command-Platform, is being developed by a tech nonprofit, MITRE, and is undergoing tests.

Nintendo 3DS Makes Gamers Feel Sick, Literally

Thousands of Nintendo 3DS users have reported side-effects such as dizziness, nausea, and headaches after playing with their 3DS players. Some of the users are outraged after finding out that they were ineligible for a refund which retails for about $250. The 3DS was launched just ten days ago. The Nintendo 3DS works by using a device called a parallax barrier, which is the second LCD screen that sits over the main panel, consisting of a layer of precision slits. These precision slits allow each eye to see a different set of pixels, creating three dimensional depth. It is intended to work with the user sitting in a fixed point in front of the image, but not from an angle.
