HTC Acquires Graphics Company For $300M

HTC is getting increasingly aggressive. Not only this the company pushing out high quality, luxury smartphones, but it has recently acquired S3 Graphics from the processor manufacturer, VIA, for $300 million. While S3 graphics doesn’t really compare to Nvidia or ATI, they do a lot of work for mobile technologies.

S3 graphics typically work on lower powered solutions that support 3D graphics and HD video playback, which is exactly what HTC is looking for as they continue to push out mobile powerhouse devices.

VIA Releases First QuadCore Chip

While Intel and AMD dominate the majority of the computer processing market, VIA is still a key player in the system. VIA chips are typically used on smaller, lower cost devices where either budget or power concerns are key issues. The newest VIA chip is the world’s lowest power quad-core x86 processor and is named QuadCore. The brand new chip will be arriving in June of this year and will be a very efficient muti-core architecture chip that provides multi-threaded performance.

VIA Rolls Out Two New Chips

VIA Technologies make computer chips for power efficient x86 processor platforms. The company announced on Friday that it will be rolling out a new line of low power dual core VIA Nano X2 Series processors at the ESC (Embedded System Conference) in San Jose.

The E-series processors are extremely power efficient and feature dual-core architecture, specifically designed for 86-bit and x86 embedded system applications. The models to be released will be a 1.2GHz and a 1.6GHz chip and both processors come with a seven year warranty.
