Samsung’s Latest Firmware Leaked

Samsung was working on two new Firmwares for their two Galaxy S smartphones: Epic 4G and Galaxy S 4G. But to Samsung’s disappointment, the new Firmwares were leaked even before Samsung announced them. A tech website SamFirmware has been able to get hands on the new firmware updates.

The Epic 4G is currently bonded with Sprint’s 4G network and the Galaxy S 4G with T-Mobile. These firmware updates bring some serious improvements in the overall user experience. The update for the Epic 4G is named EG22 while the update for Galaxy S 4G is codenamed KG4. The current version of Android running on the machines is 2.3.4, Gingerbread.

Samsung Vibrant/Galaxy S Get’s Much Needed Update

Owners of the Samsung Vibrant / Samsung Galaxy S get to enjoy a new update for their phones that fixes a number of bugs. The update is called KBS and contains updates for Gmail and Youtube as well. The DRM issue that users experienced (preventing some music from playing) has also been fixed. The update is exclusively for T-Mobile customers and is a wonderful finishing touch to the Galaxy S.

Users will enjoy a better email client, improved security, and a smoother LCD framework. There are additional software changes to multimedia messaging, and a better image gallery.

OLED Displays Are Now 2x More Efficient

Researchers from the University of Toronto have developed a special technique that produces OLED devices that will encourage consumers to adopt OLED technology embedded within flat-panel displays and through various lighting technologies.

The process requires the production of a one-atom thick sheet of chlorine onto the surface of indium tin oxide material. The layer of chlorine is applied to the surface with an ultra violet assisted process that negates the need for chlorine gas. The indium tin oxide is used as the electrode material that is currently found in flat panel displays. The outcome of this engineering process would be a more efficient and less costly OLED device.

Lenovo Will Bring 23-Inch Tablet To Life

While we’ve certainly covered a number of tablets, this one sure leaves an impression in one’s mind. While I have never heard of a tablet under 11 inches, you always hear that there is a first time for everything. Senior Specialist in Marketing, William Cai, says that Lenovo will launch a 23-inch tablet due by the end of 2011.

He admits the obvious, that the tablet won’t be as portable as your typical tablet but in so many words states that it is “portable enough.” As a geek, I see many uses of a 23-inch tablet. One of which is being able to setup a mini-theater for you and 3-4 of your friends. I would love to be able to tote a 23-inch display around that carries all my data, imagine what it would be like to watch movies/Hulu.

Samsung Introduces ‘90% More Efficient’ LCD Panel

Although displays typically compete in areas of screen resolution, contrast ratio, and through a variety of ports, Samsung is charging the tech industry by storm. The company will soon be producing a mass marketed transparent LCD panel. Production will start in the month of April with plans to ship out later this year. The 22″ transparent display will be made available in black-and-white as well as color.

They’ll both host a contrast ratio of 500:1 and a WSXGA+ (1680 x 1050) screen resolution. Today’s LCD panels use back light unit technology, called BLU and have a 5% transparency rate. Samsung’s transparency rate will be 4x better for its black-and-white model and 3x more transparent for…

Asus Transformer Tablet Priced At $400

Asus is coming out with a new tablet to compete with iPad2 and company. The company’s 10.1-inch tablet will feature an IPS resolution of 1280 x 800 pixels, covered with Gorilla Glass. The device will feature an Nvidia Tegra 2 processor, 1GB of RAM, and 16GB of flash storage. Unfortunately, the webcam isn’t that impressive as it is only 1.2MP front-facing and 5MP rear camera (much like a phone), but the tablet does have two USB 2.0 slots along with a Bluetooth 2.1 inside.

You can connect the device via the 802.11 b/g/n Wifi network. The unit weighs in at 2.2 pounds and will come in 16GB or 32GB flavors. Fear not for lack of software, Asus will be loading the tablet with…

Introducing Acer’s First Dual-Screen Laptop: Iconia

The Acer Iconia is the mutant child of a laptop and a tablet, and some are calling it a touchbook, but that’s a little to Orwellian newspeak for me. Essentially, it’s a laptop with two 14-inch touch screens. The only previous “touchbook” was the Toshiba Libretto W100, which had a limited release.

The Iconia weighs in at 6.2 pounds, is powered by the Intel Core i5-480M, has 4GB of DDR3 RAM, and has a 640 GB hard drive. Connectivity options include 802.11b/g/n Wi-Fi and an Ethernet port. The Iconia includes the brand new USB 3.0, allowing super-fast file transfers, in addition to a HDMI port, a VGA port, and 2 USB 2.0 ports. The GPU is not as good as it should be,

Nintendo 3DS Gets “Black Screen Of Death”

With the launching of the Nintendo 3DS, there came a number of users who encountered a fatal error message. Unfortunately the fatal error message is spontaneous, so there are not steps one can do to try to avoid the crash, such as turning a setting on or off. Currently there are only a minority of players experiencing this problem and some are hoping that Nintendo will be able to release a patch to fix it. Some users mentioned…
