NEC’s 23″ Full HD, LED-LCD Screen

NEC has recently added a new LCD to its MultiSync lineup. The new screen is dubbed the EX231Wp and offers consumers a whopping 23″ of screen real-estate, offering a thin and lightweight screen that is perfect for workers who need to carry their display with them (such as LAN party goers).

The display is LED backlit, saving power, and runs a full HD resolution, spanning 1920 x 1080 pixels. The monitor consumers a typical 27 watts of power when in use and offers DisplayPort and DVI inputs for connectivity.

AMD Announces G-Series APU

AMD has just announced its new G-series platform, the world’s first combination of a lower-power CPU, coupled with an advanced GPU that is integrated into a single embedded Accelerated Processing Unit. The G-series has the core focus of producing more for less power.

These APUs carry thermal design power ratings between 5.5 and 6.4 watts, leading to a 39% power savings compared to previous versions.

The G-series APU ships in a 361mm2 package that allows compact use, perfect for modern netbooks and notebooks. AMD claims that the new G-series APUs offer up to three times the performance per watt compared to previous generations.

Solar Powered Prison Facilities Save $55M

In addition to educational programs for prisoners, California’s “Con College” will give an opportunity for prisoners to lower their carbon footprint. The CDCR (California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation) will be adding 23 megawatts of solar-generated power at five state prison facilities in Southern California. The CDCR has estimated that the solar projects will save taxpayers more than $55 million over the long term.
